Trying to smoke cigars like a boss but a little confused about the process? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one and after reading this you’ll be a cigar smoking pro. You would think that you just light one end and puff on the other, but it is way deeper than that.

The first thing you will need to do is choose a cigar. When making your selection pick up a couple good-looking ones and roll them in between your fingers. If you feel any lumps or soft spots, move on to another one. A good quality cigar will have a consistently firm texture throughout its entire body.

Next, you’re going to want to cut it. The best way to cut a cigar is with a cigar cutter obviously but if you don’t have one handy a pair of scissors or your teeth will suffice. The best way to snip the end off is with a quick, strong motion, this will help you avoid tears.

Now once your cigar is all prepped and ready to go the next thing you will want to do is light it. You could go in a lot of different directions here but a torch lighter is the best choice. Wooden matches and normal lighters will also work, but the former is harder to keep lit for long periods of time, while the latter will get the job done but should be avoided if possible as the gas takes away from the flavor of the cigar.

Once you’ve gotten your flame sorted out you’ll want to ensure that the cigar is lit evenly because an uneven light can lead to an uneven burn. But once all that is done you can begin puffing like a boss.
